My goal for Language Arts is to foster a love of reading and writing in all my students. I do this by breaking the subject into two parts: first semester I teach a Reading Workshop and second semester I teach a Writing Workshop. Both workshops are student-centered, engaging, and build confidence in reading and writing. In the Reading Workshop we’ll have three units: first, a novel study of the book, Frindle, by Andrew Clements, second, we’ll read and learn about all types of  poetry, and third, we’ll learn about and read informational texts.  We’ll cover reading comprehension strategies, analyze the plot, characters,  and themes, learn vocabulary through context clues and morphology,  write about reading, discover main ideas and supporting details and how to find them in texts, and reading fluency and accuracy. The Writing Workshop is also broken up into three units: Narrative, Poetry, and Expository Writing. I teach writing using the 6+1 Traits of Writing: Ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.
Curriculum includes a wide variety of sources from years of teaching Language Arts including, TeacherspayTeachers, Moving Beyond the Page, Reach 4 Reading, and Institute for Excellence in Writing.

Students will need:

  • A copy of the book, Frindle, by Andrew Clements
  • A spiral notebook
  • A folder
  • pencils/erasers
  • A novel to read at home

Students will have 1-2 hours of homework a week. Students will also read a novel on their own at home and complete a book report each semester in addition to the homework.

This high-energy class builds a rock-solid mathematical foundation through visual learning, physical movement, and active play. We focus on deep number awareness, early addition and subtraction, and pattern recognition using exciting games like Tens-Go-Fish and Race to 100.
Kindergarteners focus entirely on tactile, hands-on activities, while 1st and 2nd graders bridge into formal math literacy using the Math Mammoth curriculum. There is no written homework required for this class; instead, families are asked to play a provided 10-minute math game together twice a week. While this program is completely all-inclusive for Kindergarteners, parents of 1st and 2nd graders will need to supplement at home by guiding their child through 1–2 leftover workbook pages each week to maintain steady pacing.
At home, parents just need to have a regular deck of playing cards, two dice, and small items for counting (like pennies or LEGO bricks) on hand.

Designed to take the fear out of multiplication and long division, this class uses deeply collaborative games like Multiplication Spiral and Salute! to build lightning-fast fact fluency. Students master the logic behind large numbers, place value, beginner geometry, and complex word problems using the topical Math Mammoth Blue Series curriculum. Homework requirements are kept minimal and highly intentional to respect family time; students are only asked to complete the odd-numbered problems on their weekly worksheet alongside a 10-minute family math game. This course is fully all-inclusive and covers all required grade-level standards, provided that parents ensure those assigned odd-numbered homework problems are completed to prevent learning gaps. To support learning at home, parents should keep a deck of playing cards, two dice, scratch paper, and a standard ruler on hand for their child.

This class bridges the gap between elementary arithmetic and advanced middle school concepts by diving deep into fractions, decimals, percentages, early geometry, and algebraic thinking. We combine rigorous academic instruction from the famous Saxon Math 6/5 curriculum with strategic logic games like Fraction War and Target Number to keep math exciting and engaging.
Homework is required for this class because we compress two lessons into each class day; students complete their core conceptual practice with the teacher but will bring home a curated, 10-problem review sheet after every session. This program is completely all-inclusive, meaning students will be fully prepared for 6th-grade math without any extra home teaching required, as long as they attend class and finish their home review sheets.
For home study, parents will need to supply their student with a regular deck of cards, pencils, a ruler, and a notebook of grid or graph paper, which is crucial for keeping advanced math columns properly aligned.
