 Hello there, friends!

I’m Professor Owlton Cottonwood, but most folks just call me Owlie, and that’s owl-right by me.

I’m a Great Horned Owl, and I grew up in the quiet cottonwood forests of Alaska, where the trees whisper stories in the wind and the stars dance in the moonlight. When I saw the wonderful learning and laughter happening at East Anchorage Homeschool, I knew this was the perfect nest for me.

From my perch, I peek in between naps to see all of you learning, creating, and discovering — and let me tell you, it’s a hoot! Even when my eyes are closed, I can feel the curiosity in every question, courage in every challenge, and kindness in the way you support one another.

As a professor (self-appointed, of course), my job is to remind you of a few simple truths:
Stay curious. Stay kind. And remember, wisdom doesn’t come from knowing everything — it grows from asking why.

So whether you’re learning your ABCs or solving algebra, writing stories or studying science, I’ll be right here — watching, cheering, and reminding you to keep your wings open and your roots strong.

Welcome to our nest of learning. Let’s keep growing together — owl-ways.

🌿 Owlie’s Fun Facts

  • 🕊️ How long can you fly?
I can soar for miles without stopping — my wings stretch nearly five feet across! But honestly, I prefer gliding gracefully from one cottonwood branch to another, especially when the moon is full.
  • 🍽️ What’s your favorite food?
A nice midnight snack of snowshoe hare or vole hits the spot — but I’ll never say no to a leftover granola bar from the lunchroom!
  • 😴 When do you sleep?
While you’re busy learning, I’m catching some Z’s! I’m nocturnal, which means I’m wide awake when the stars come out and snoring softly when the sun’s up.
  • 🎨 What’s your favorite color?
I’m partial to moonlight silver — though the golden glow of curiosity is a close second.
  • 🪶 Do you have any siblings?
I hatched with two brothers and one sister. We used to compete to see who could “hoot” the loudest — I may have won that contest every time.
  • 🧠 What’s one of your secret talents?
I can turn my head almost all the way around (270 degrees to be exact). Handy when you’re supervising a whole classroom of learners!
  • 🤭 Something silly about you?
I once tried to teach a porcupine to fly. Let’s just say… it was a pointless lesson.
